Medieval copper alloy buckle plate, 33mm in length, 21mm wide, 4mm thick, with a weight of 51.42g. The object si rectangular in form and cross section and consists of a flat plate, with a pinched collar close to one edge (right as shown). Beyond this the object forms a sub rectangular plate with a central circular hole, sitting just behind a slight central recess. On the other side of the collar the object has two raised transverse ridges and behind this is decorated with six incised lines with a few shorted diagonal ones crossing them. Late Early Medieval copper alloy buckle, 18mm in length, 17mm wide, 3mm thick with a weight of 2.49g. The object is D shaped in form and sub circular in cross section. It is very worn but is formed of a rounded loop which terminates in zoomorphic heads with upwards projecting snouts. The slightly recessed pin sits below each head. The buckle has excavated parallels in Winchester (Hinton in Biddle 1990, no. 1110) and Norwich (Margeson 1993, no. 127).

Medieval copper alloy buckle, 20mm in length, 16mm wide and 4mm thick with a weight of 1.62grams. The buckle has a sub-rectangular form and cross section and is intact, except for the pin. It has an oval frame with a sub rectangular cross section and a wide flat outer edge which has a recessed inner portion to allow for a roller, now missing, and slight triangular projections at each edge. The opposite side has a narrow recessed circular sectioned pin bar.

It consists of a single oval loop with pointed pin rest and a circular cross section, which is attached to a spacer plate formed of two sub rectangular tapering arms. The buckle matches e.g.s 322-330 in Egan, G. and Pritchard, F. Dress Accessories, c.1150-c.1450 (Medieval Finds from Excavations in London) 1991.

Medieval copper alloy buckle plate, 37mm long, 23mm wide and 2mm thick with a weight of 3.46g. The object consists of a rectangular plate with two small incomplete rounded rectangles, which would have formed frame loops, projecting from one short edge. The object is incomplete but has a raised edge containing a stylised w beast, probably a winged griffin. It has a small circular hole in its complete corner opposite its fixing loops and this has traces of gilding around it. The decoration is probably a devolved version of YORYM-066D9E which is dated to 1200-1300AD.

Medieval copper alloy zoomorphic buckle. 30mm in length, 23mm wide and 11mm thick with a weight of 14.27g. The object is sub rectangular in form and cross section and takes the form of a backwards facing dog or lion. It has a thin body with pronounced shoulders and thighs. It has very worn decoration around its neck, suggesting a mane. Its legs are joined in pairs with the feet only de-marked by a linear depression on the base. The two pairs of legs are joined by a flat bar across the base. This holds a very corroded iron pin which runs up to the animals shoulder. Good examples…
