Late Neolithic polished stone axe, 99mm long, 64mm wide and 26mm thick with a weight of 202g. The axe is mostly complete, missing its hafted end, but has also sustained a lot of damage aroud its edges. It is sub rectangular in form and eliptical in cross section. It has a pronounced rounded step just before it drops down to form a blade on one face. It has no obvious facets and is a dark grey/brown, suggesting Charnwood slate.

Fragment of a Neolithic slate axe, 66mm long, 54mm wide, 16mm thick and weighs 71.98g. The axe is sub rectangular in form and cross section. It has a very fragmented, damaged surface and was possibly broken during manufacure? It has a rounded, polished blade which is mostly intact, but all other surfaces are damaged. The object is a pale green/blue colour which may suggest Charnwood slate.

Neolithic stone axe, 59mm long, 44mm at its widest point and 17mm thick with a weight of 102grams. The axe is incomplete and is made from Jadeitite. In plan one side is slightly convex while the other side is fairly straight, with slight facets. The blade is fairly straight and symmetrical and the body has traces fo polishing on each face. Neolithic polished stone axe fragment, 51mm long, 44mm wide and 14mm thick with a weight of 37.47grams. The fragment represents part of the blade end of an axe, but is very damaged with little original surface remaining. It has part of the curved blade which merges into the adjoining facetted edge, which has a thin angular face butting up to the rounded surface. The axe appears to be Langdale slate (fine grained tuff), so it could be part of a group VI axe.

Early Medieval?? stone grave marker. 190mm long, 120mm wide and 70mm thick. The object has a roughly rectangular form and semi circular cross section. The left side (as photographed) is quite rectangular and the object slopes across its face to a more rounded and shallower right side. It has a flat and plain reverse and its upper and lower edges are damaged or roughly hewn. In the centre of its face is a carved cross with a v shaped recess. The most obvious use for such an object would be as a grave marker.

Early Neolithic stone axehead, 72mm long, 43mm wide and 20mm thick. The object is in good condition with a weight of 89.366grams. The axe is complete except for a chip on one side near its butt end. It is produced from a fine grained brown/green stone. It is unfacetted and has a rounded surface which terminates in a very faint ridge down each side, giving it a pointed oval cross-section. It has a gently rounded blade which is intact and still crisp. The axe appears to be Group VI volcanic tuff, probably making it a product of the Langdale axe factory.

Neolithic stone axehead, 139mm long, 50mm wide and 37mm thick. The object is complete and in good condition and weighs 374grams. The axe has a triangular form and an eliptical section and is made from a form of fine granite. The butt end tapers gently to a rouned apex and the whole surface is gently rounded. At one side of the blade there is a trace of a facet and the blade itself is intact and finely worked. Around the blade is considerable poloishing, slightly more on one surface than the other.

The stone weighs 171grams and has been worked from three angles to remove at least 9 flakes to form a triangular point which appears to have some wear. We refer to these as chopper-cores as we can't be certain whether the whole object is being used or the flakes are being used as cutting tools. Late Iron Age beehive quern, 155mm high and 270mm in diameter at its base. The object represents the upper part of a Hunsbury type beehive quern. It has roughly carved tapering sides with a sub rectangular hole in its side to take a handle and a hole in its base for the grain to pass through. It is probably made from Derbyshire millstone grit and was found in garden in Brixworth, Northants. The object was in-situ when the house was purchased so its original location is unknown.

Incomplete Neolithic polished stone axe, consisting of about two-thirds of a whole axe, but missing its blade end, suggesting it was broken while in use. It has irregular faceted edges with one surface having a flattened irregular shaped area. The fragment is 85mm long, 44mm wide and 26mm thick. It is in good condition and weighs 114g.

Anglo-Saxon ? stone carved head, C. 50mm high and 30mm wide. The head is very worn but clearly shows a helmeted male. There is a raised ridge running from back from his face and a clear line indicating the edge of the helmet. He has slightly raised rounded eyes with a long narrow nose in between. Below his nose he has a thick and long 'handlebar' moustache which covers his mouth leaving only a rounded chin exposed. There is a ridge running down each side of his face which has incised lines behind, these either represent his hair or possible cheekpieces?

Early Medieval? stone spindle whorl fragment, 27mm in diameter long and 21mm wide and weighs 9.52 grams.. The object is circular in form (incomplete) and sub circular in cross section. It has a pale yellow/grey patina and is probably made from sand or lime stone. What remains of the central hole is 10mm wide. Its form is an elongated version of Walton Rogers form B, though it is slightly narrower on one edge than the other so could fit form A2. It is most similar to eg.2545, fig.9.3 p.284 in Evans D.H. and Loveluck, C. 'life and economy at Early Medieval Flixborough'

It tapers to a point on two sides, down to 47mm wide and 22mm thick, which forms a wedge shape. This end has some damage and is missing its original edge. The wide end is also missing part of its surface, but overall has a lighter colour and is worn. The object could be an unfinished hammer (missing the hole for the shaft) or it could be a wedge for separating trees into planks which has lost its sharp edge.

It tapers slightly at the base and steeply towards its cutting edge, which is curved and has a few chips in its surface. The axe is probably a Langdale type 6.

Neolithic polished stone axe. It is 124mm long and 45mm at its widest part. It is a Langdale type 6 with squared edges and has a diagonally striped grain in the stone. The axe is 22mm wide at its narrowest and widens out to 45mm. It has a sharp dipped angle on one surface, just before its broken edge, here it has a thickness of 22mm. It has two breaking points suggesting it was damaged in the plough soil.

Mesolithic pebble hammer made from a hard orange coloured stone, The hammer has two depressions which are sub triangular in section, one on each side of the pebble which correspond with each other, showing that a hole was being formed. For some reason the object has been discarded before completion.
