Early Medieval or Medieval iron axe head, 155mm long, 45mm wide at the butt and 55mm high. The object is in fair condition and weighs 736grams. The axe consists of a rectangular shaped butt which has a rectangular shaped recess for a shaft. Each side of the butt has rounded upper and lower edges, giving it a sub circular form from the side. The blade is narrow and widens out towards its tip, flaring downwards on its lower edge. When viewed from above the axe blade appears to be aligned slightly towards the left, though this may be incidental.

Iron axe head, 245mm long, 96mm wide, 59mm thick and weighing 1.5kg. The axe has a triangular shaft fixing? from which emerges a flared triangular blade. There is a parallell for this form in Manning ?? which is a roman carpenters axe and therefore quite a rare find.
