Roman copper alloy steelyard. The object consists of a plain bar with one hole in the centre of a rounded terminal, and another rectangular hole in a semi-circular projection underneath the opposite end. A third suspension hole pierces a central semi-circular projection on the upper surface. It is in fair condition, is 56mm long, 24mm wide, 4mm thick and weighs 11.86g.

Fragment of a Roman copper alloy steelyard - scale with beam arms of unequal lenght (Colchester Archaeological Report 2, p 99-100, Fig. 104; 2507). Only the thicker end with suspension hooks survive. Roman copper alloy steel yard balance arm fragment, 64mm long, 25mm wide, 6mm thick with a weight of 22.99grams. The object consists of the end of a balance arm and is rectangular in cross section and form. It has three open circular projections, one is postioned on, and fills, its end and this is flanked by a small triangular projection at one corner with a second loop just above the other, at right angles to the first loop. The third loop is about halfway down the long edge of the fragment, positioned on the same side as the triangular projection. The object has no decoration. …

Roman copper alloy Steelyard balance fragment, 44mm long, 12mm wide and 2mm thick. The object is in fair condition and weighs 5.66grams. The object is rectangular in form and consists of a circular sectioned shaft which gradually becomes rectangular in section. On one edge it has a complete circular suspension loop. The broken remains of two more are present, one forming the terminal and one on the opposing edge, but lower down. The surface is decorated on both sides with two sets of two inscribed lines, which are aligned next to each of the side loops.
