Medieval iron horseshoe fragment, 91mm long and 20mm wide with a weight of 54g. The fragment represents just under half a shoe, has a rectangular cross section and a curved tapering form. It has one inner flat edge and the outer edge is 'lobate' with rounded projections. These allow for oval shaped recesses with rectangular holes to accommodate the nails. There are three such holes in the fragment, two of which still contain the rectangular cross sectioned nails. Medieval to post medieval iron horseshoe, 103mm in length, 30mm wide and 7mm thick with a weight of 174grams. The object is U shaped with a rectangular cross section. It is formed of a wide flat sheet with a V shaped central hole. It is incomplete missing one end, but the intact end is sub triangular in form and along its outer curved side are the traces of four rectangular nail holes. The object dates to 1250-1600. It is of Clark Type 4 (Clark, 2004, The Medieval Horse and its Equipment).

Possible Roman iron object, 102mm in length, 32mm wide and 7mm thick with a weight of 23.47grams. The object is T shaped in form and rectangular in cross section. It has two short right angled projections at one end which are seperated by a semi-circlular depression on the outer surface, which continues down the front as a concave shallow recess for 20-30mm. The object is possibly a T-shaped clamp which would have been used in the fixing of a variety of architectural elements, especially box flue-tiles. See NMS-8225A8 Cf. Manning 1985, 131-2, R70-2.

It has a central bar containing a pin and a triangular plate folded onto the bar, which has a circular loop at its apex. The objects form could give it a medieval date but its iron construction and condition suggest a later post medieval one.

Early medieval iron shield boss, 21 mm wide, 117mm in diameter, 115mm deep and weighing 248 grams. The boss is circular in form and triangular in cross section. It has a small section of flat rim present at its base, which is 21 mm wide. Above this there is a straight sided section c.20mm high, which turns outwards to form a lipped projection. Roman, iron fragments, possibly casting waste and waste meterial? The large piece is an irregular shaped lump, with no signs of working. 72mm long, 47mm wide and 29mm thhick with a weight of 185grams. The smaller piece has a rectangular section and form with a flat surface with slightly curved edges, creating a hollow underside. 53mm long, 34mm wide and 7mm thick with a weight of 40.97grams. The objects were found in the same place as a probable Roman knife LEIC-452D16 and a Roman nail LEIC-4576AD, which could imply waste material gathered for recycling.

Roman iron knife blade ? 153mm long, 39mm wide and 6mm thick with a weight of 111 grams. The blade is in two pieces and has a rectangular cross sectioned tang c.30mm long, which has a sub spherical terminal. The blade has a straight back and is wide, c.40mm, and rounded where it joins the tang, tapering to a point. The shape suggests it could be Roman in date and it was found in the same area as a Roman nail, LEIC-4576AD cf. Manning 1985, plate 55 or pl 5 (thanks to Ed Wood for the parallel).

It has a sub triangular shaped 'blade' which appears incomplete, This measures 18mm by 16mm and curves into a rectangular sectioned straight shaft which tapers very gently in width to a curved projecting 'prong' which is 9mm long, 6mm wide and 4mm thick at the tip. This is curved to one side, when viewed from its longest side, and may be to accomodate a handle?

Unidentified and undated Iron object. It has a circular plate which is decorated on one side with a double lined cross with radiating incised lines in each quarter. Attached to this is a shaft of indeterminate form as it is covered in corrosion. The circular plate was revealed by cleaning undertaken by the finder.
