Record ID: WMID-519476
Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A knapped flint side scraper of probable Neolithic date. The flint also has an apparent burin spall removal at the distal end with a burin point formed, probably for boring or incising. The tool therefore may had a double function as a burin and a scraper. The left lateral edge has been retouched, probably to form a scraping edge. A small portion of pale cream coloured cortex has been retained at the distal end of the dorsal face, probably to allow the flint to be handled comfortably. The proximal end retains the bulb of percussion. The flint is a dark mottled grey in colour. The flin…

Record ID: WMID-187CB2
Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A knapped flint end scraper of later Neolithic to early Bronze Age in date, formed from a flake with a hinge fracture on the ventral face. The flint is sub-oval in shape and has semi-abrupt retouch applied to the distal end allowing it to function as a scraper. A small area of white cortex remains on the dorsal face. Other than this the flint is of a mottled grey colour. Find not photographed.

Record ID: WMID-184441
Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A knapped flint flake of prehistoric date, possibly Neolithic. The flake appears to have some retouch along its remaining lateral edge - two other edges appear to be breaks. It has a clear bulb of percussion and bulbar scar on the ventral face at the proximal end. The flint is of a pale brown colour. Find not photographed.

Record ID: WMID-182832
Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A knapped flint flake of prehistoric date, possibly Neolithic. The flake appears to have some retouch along both lateral edges, perhaps to form scraping edges. It has a clear bulb of percussion and bulbar scar on the ventral face at the proximal end. There are several negative scars from previous flake removal on the dorsal face. The flint is of a mottled grey colour. The tool looks as though it may have been snapped and as the break has a similar patina to the rest of the flint it seems likely that this is an ancient break rather than recent damage. Find not photographed.

Record ID: WMID-17DDE4
Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A knapped flint of prehistoric date, possibly Neolithic. The flake does not appear to have been retouched after having been struck from the core. The flake is not of a good quality flint and has inconsistencies including an area of cortex. This is perhaps why it was not selected for further adaption. It is a pale grey to white in colour with an area of pale brown cortex. Find not photographed.

Record ID: WMID-17C5F4
Object type: BORER
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A knapped flint of prehistoric date, probably Neolithic. The tool has a clear bulb of percussion and bulbar scar from having been knapped from a core. A projection at the distal end of the flake may possibly have allowed it to be used as a borer or a piercer. The flint is a pale grey in colour. Find not photographed.

Object type: KNIFE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A knapped flint of prehistoric date, probably Neolithic and possibly used as a knife. The flint is curved and has two very sharp edges. It does not appear to have been retouched after being struck from the flint core. The bulb of percussion is clear at the proximal end, as is the bulbar scar. The flint is a pale grey in colour. It is triangular in section. Find not photographed.

Record ID: WMID-169B74
Object type: ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete prehistoric worked flint, possibly a Neolithic or early Bronze Age arrowhead. As the flint object is clearly broken it is difficult to determine for certain what it may once have functioned as. Invasive retouch applied to the dorsal face may suggest an arrowhead although as the ventral face is not retouched and the object is incomplete this is difficult to say for certain. The apparent shape of a tang may in fact be coincidence. The flint is a light to dark grey in colour. Find not photographed.

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A prehistoric worked flint scraper of probable Neolithic date. The tool is clearly broken although the fairly uniform patina at the break may suggest this is an ancient rather than recent break. The dorsal face of the flint has had extensive invasive retouch applied. There is an area of cortex in the centre of the dorsal face. The reverse has clear ripples formed by the percussive blow used to strike the flint from the core. The flint is a dark grey colour with an area of pale cream/pale grey cortex on the dorsal face. It is lozenge shaped in section. Find not photographed.

Record ID: WMID-166792
Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A prehistoric flint flake, probably Neolithic in date, perhaps used as a cutting blade. The bulb of percussion and bulbar scar are clearly visible on the ventral face at the proximal end. A ridge runs down the centre of the dorsal face, making the flint triangular in section. The tip is missing and there appears to be some retouch, particularly down the right lateral edge, perhaps to facilitate hafting. The flint is a dark grey colour with cream to white speckled inclusions. Find not photographed.

Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A prehistoric flint flake, probably Neolithic in date and probably a waste flake struck during the knapping process, subsequently used as a cutting blade. The flake has a clear bulb of percussion and a bulbar scar at the proximal end. Cortex remains at the distal end and it is possible this was deliberately left to facilitate comfortable handling, allowing the left lateral edge to be used for cutting. This edge has some damage, perhaps from use. The flint has a dark grey colour with white/grey inclusions. The cortex is a pale ochre in colour. Find not photographed.
