Object type: TOKEN
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Warwickshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A moulded lead bifaced token of medieval or post-medieval date. One side of the token has moulded decoration incorporating a central pellet surrounded by lozenges with radiating lines emerging from between the lozenges, giving the appearance of a many petalled flower. The other side has a crude cross-hatched design and it is unclear what this is intended to represent. Such tokens may have performed a multitude of functions from gaming counters to a form of small change used in the absence of official low value coinage within a local area.

Object type: WEIGHT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A large moulded lead weight of probable medieval or post-medieval date. The weight is circular in plan and measures 32.51 mm in diameter, 7.27 mm thick and weighs 48.3 grams. Broad period: MODERN
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A group of nine modern lead Russian bag or bale seal dating from the late 18th to early 19th century, all recovered from the same general area. The seals are all sub-circular, with four shallow semicircular removals in their circumferences for the cords. These types of seal were used as a means to monitor and ensure the quality of products such as flax hemp. All of the seals are stamped on both faces with codified information about the port in which the goods were exported, the producer, the date, the title, initial and surname of the control officer with a reference number. Two fairly crude lead weights of uncertain date and function. The weights seem too small and crude to be spindle whorls. Both are sub-circular and plano-convex in profile and both measure approximately 15 mm in diameter. They each have a circular hole through the centre, approximately 5.5 mm in diameter. They weigh 6.5 and 8.2 mm respectively. Both have a pale cream patina.

Object type: VESSEL
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A fairly crude lead vessel, possibly a medieval bird feeder designed to sit against the cage of caged birds. The object's walls are bent out of shape yet it does appear as if one wall may have been flat so that it could sit flush against a vertical surface. It measures 50.14 mm in height, 58.9 mm wide, 25.8 mm across at the bent top and approximately 39 mm across at its base. The walls are approximately 5.5 mm thick. It weighs 205.3 grams.
Alternative suggestions are that these containers could have been used as dice shakers, grain measures, blood letting cups, inkwells, etc.

Object type: FINGER RING
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A cast lead finger ring of probable post-medieval date. The ring is slightly bent out of shape and is oval in plan with a projecting flat oval shaped bezel (9.53 mm long and 8.45 mm wide) and ten small projecting knops around the outer circumference. The bezel is plain but on more elaborate examples of such rings there are designs and letters. One side of the ring is flat whilst the other is rounded.
The ten knops around the circumference of the ring suggest that it was a decade ring, used as a discreet way of assisting in the saying of the ten prayers that make up the Rosary in the C…
