The back bears a maker’s back stamp in two orders: C & J. WELDON 130 CHEAPSIDE/LONDON. A drawn wire loop is brazed to the back plate, where a tiny scrap of textile was observed. Hollow cast miniature vessel in the form of a flattened bulbous flask with thin side handle loops projecting from its plain neck; the body of the vessel is of peltate form with upswept ends; the mouth is slightly expanded and now open. Copper alloy finger ring or signet ring fragment. Cast cylindrical bezel detached from a signet ring, with a stepped or bevelled top and side which may have been clasped by the edge of a tall collet. The matrix bears the prominently inscribed letters, reversed: VIV/SA, which would produce an imprint reading VIV/AS [may you live/flourish], a formula deemed to imply the Christian belief of the user. Cast hemispherical slightly concavo-convex pear-shaped mount with a collared and knurled or wrythen terminal retaining rust traces from an iron fixing pin, and an opposed uncollared short backward-pointing hook which passes through a light triple loop whose edges are thinned by localised wear. There is the stub of an integral fixing pin behind the top of the hook. The larger component is similar to NLM-FB2F94 and the two may come from the same functional assemblage.
