The find comprises twenty-one 'radiates' (double-denarii) of Roman emperors of the middle of the third century A.D., a total that includes six irregular copies and two uncertain coins. These are summarised in the table below.
Two further coins were submitted, having been found in the same locality: an uncertain coin, probably an as/dupondius of the 1st-2nd centuries and a fourth-century nummus.
Associated finds
Attached to one coin was a small mass of iron-rich material, within which could be discerned the mineralised traces of a fragmentary textile.

One hundred and five Roman coins of the third century A.D., with a date range c. 255-286. The coins have not been cleaned: for the most part they are corroded and cannot be catalogued in full detail. A 17th century halfpenny token. The token is inscribed *EDWARD·BEVAN· on the obverse, ·OF·MONMOVTH around the edge of the reverse and HIS HALF PENY in three lines in the centre of the reverse with EBE clockwise in a triangle from bottom left. This halfpenny was therefore issued by Edward Bevan, a tallow chandler in Monmouth, portrayed on the obverse as a man dipping two candles. It is undated, but is from the 1660's.

A complete silver half cruzado (200-reis) of King John IV of Portugal ('o Restaurador', 1640-56), presumably minted at Lisbon.
The countermark on the reverse '250' relates to a revaluation under John IV's successor, Afonso VI ('o Vitorioso', 1656-67), brought on by the cost of wars against Spain. (Portugal had been under Spain from 1580 until 1640.). Decree of 22 March 1663 increased face value of silver coins by 25%.

Two fragments of a very badly worn Roman silver coin. The obverse shows what appears to be a clean shaven male head facing left. Only the face and the front of the neck have survived, most of the head is missing. There are no other decipherable elements to the obverse and no inscription appears to have survived.

Sub-circular struck copper alloy coin. The obverse contains a very crude stylised diademed (crowned), or possibly helmeted, head facing right. It is difficult to interpret the head, however there is what appears to be a faint band extending over the head from front to back which may be a stylised crest. There is also a small structure just behind the jaw which may be a crude ear guard although it may equally be a very poorly formed ear. There is possibly part of a legend visible above the head which may read: LIII.

Edward Besly of the National Museum and Gallery of Wales has identified this coin as follows.
Louis XIV's coinage suffered a succession of remintings in this period, known as 'réformations' and most of the time, ratther than melting down the coins, they struck the new ones directly on the old.
This is therefore a réformation:
A 1691 'Quadruple sol aux deux Ls', which has been overstruck c.1702-4 to become a a 'cinq sols aux insignes'.
