Roman copper alloy bow brooch of Trumpet type and of 1st or 2nd century AD date
The brooch is incomplete, missing the spring and pin (with a length of 52.5mm, a depth of 26.8mm and a weight of 13.4g). The missing spring was secured around a single perforated lug at the rear of the head. The trumpet head is oval (14.3mm long and 10.8mm high) with a flat and undecorated border around the upper bow. Medieval annular brooch frame, probably of 13th or 14th century date
The frame is complete although the surface has been lost. The frame is circular with a diameter of 16.6mm (internal diameter of 11.6mm), a thickness of 1.5mm and weighs 0.7g. The rear of the frame is bevelled and plain. The pin restriction has a width of 2.1mm and the bar has a diameter of 1.7mm. The opposite side of the frame has no notch for the pin.
