Double patard of Charles the Bold, for Flanders, c.1467-74. Double patards were exactly equivalent to English groats and were made legal tender in England and Wales in 1469. They show up in hoards down to the 1530s and presumably finally disappeared during the Henrician debasements of the early 1540s. 16th Portuguese medio real or chinfrao of Alfonso V (1438 - 81) of Portugal. These turn up in some quantity across England: According to Barrie Cook, it was issued in 1472, and demonetized (in Portugal, presumably) in 1485, but seems to have circulated in England as a half-groat and appears in hoards as late as the 1530s. They were probably the coins known as 'dandyprats' - see Barrie Cook's article in BNJ 64, at pp.72-4. It has a hole pierced near the edge at on side suggesting it was used as a pendant. [portugal]
