The find comprises six post-medieval English coins, of Elizabeth I and Charles I, with a face value at the time of £0 10s 6d; as received at Amgueddfa Cymru, they appear to have been cleaned. No associated objects were reported.
The find represents a small, but typical assemblage from the period of the 'English' Civil War, with the coins worn through circulation roughly in proportion to their age when lost or deposited. The latest Tower coins are from 1641-3, but the group is to be dated by the Chester coin, which allowing for the effects of cleaning is in fresh condition. A roy…

Description
Four silver sixpences of Elizabeth I of England (1558-1603), dated 1567, 1574 and 1583 (found by Mr Small) and 1567 (found by Mr Williams). The coins display moderate amounts of wear through use, consistent with their having been lost or deposited at around the same time. Elizabeth’s silver coinage was of a consistently high fineness, in excess of 90% Ag.
Discussion
Silver coins of Elizabeth are found fairly regularly and the sixpence is a commonly-encountered denomination, playing a significant part in most coin hoards from the later sixteenth and sevente…

The find comprises sixteen silver coins: thirteen English groats, 1352/3-1526/9; one half-groat of Henry VII (1485-1509); and two double patards from the Burgundian Netherlands (1467-74). No associated items were reported.
The latest coins in the group (nos 11-14) all belong to the early years of Henry VIII's second coinage, struck between 1526 and 1529, giving a consistent terminus in the late 1520s. With one exception, the English coins are all groats (4d) and apart from the survival of one heavier coin of Edward III, all have weights in keeping with the standard current at the t…
