A plated silver Roman denarius copying a coin of the Civil Wars, dating to the period c.68-69 (Reece period 3). SIGNA P R reverse type depicting an Aquila between two standards, an altar to right. Protoype of the Gallic mint associated with the revolt of Vindex in AD 68. cf. RIC I (2nd ed.), p. 207, no. 51. There appears to only be one other example of this type on the PAS database, YORYM-E72984. This coin is a plated contemporary copy with the base metal core visible in several places on both faces as well as some iron corrosion on the surfaces.
