An incomplete, clipped, doublestruck and very worn silver penny of Richard II (1377-1399), type Ib or local dies (North 1329b or 1330) minted at York. Ref: North 1994: 62-63; Purvey 1962: 90-94. The condition of the coin makes it difficult to identify with confidence. The motif on the breast is most likely a cross rather than a lis and there are two visible large pellets either side of the shoulders, both features disctinctive of type Ib and local dies.
