Object type: COIN WEIGHT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Hertfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A post-Medieval copper-alloy coin weight. The weight is rectangular in plan and of flat section. One side bears a relief-stamped image which is probably a depiction of St. Michael spearing a dragon. A beaded circular border surrounds this image, with a second such border marking the perimeter of the upper surface. Also surrounded by a beaded circular border, the image on the opposite side is very worn but probably shows a right-facing male bust. Given the nature of the imagery, it would seem likely that this is a 16th or 17th century weight for the gold angel coin.

Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: MEDIEVAL

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A copper-alloy single-loop buckle of medieval date. The frame is broadly 'D'shaped in plan, with sloping surfaces, a pointed pin rest with surface groove, and offset axis bar. The plate has been doubled around this bar, creating two sub-rectangular sides, one of which is incomplete. The complete side retains two in situ copper alloy rivets, located at the corners furthest from the frame, which would have joined the two sides of the plate together. At the frame end, both plates have a sub-circular piercing, via which the now-missing pin would have been looped around the axis bar.
