A Sceatta probably from the Rhine area, known as the Porcupine type (Series E). This sceat dates from the 8th century. The head of the 'porcupine' has evolved to be triangular in shape, indicating a later date than other Series E sceats. An exact comparison could not be made with this coin, but it bears similarities to those found in the Kloster Barthe hoard, from around Leer in Ostfriesland, Northwest Germany (Abramson 2006:91).
