Date: early 18th Century
Description: Post-Medieval gold mourning ring. D-shaped band, exterior once decorated, now very worn. Inscription on internal surface: HS ob 25 Mar at 48 (HS died 25 March aged 48). There is a gap in the inscription where the year of death is usually represented, four lines have been scratched into this gap, rather than engraved, this appears to be 1711. CURATOR'S REPORT
Gold Anglo-Saxon pendant.
Description of find
Round, openwork, gold pendant with damaged attachment loop. The pendant is formed by a coiled length of beaded gold wire which is soldered together. The innermost coil was left plain in two sections, for decorative effect and the outermost ring has separated from the next one at some length. The attachment loop resembles the tubular loops on bracteates, but is torn and squashed. A small, flattened, gold globule is placed where the attachment loop sits on the ?front of the pendant.. The loop is more abraded on the othe…

CURATOR'S REPORT
A gold pendant, incorporating a Visigothic gold tremissis in the name of the Roman Emperor Anastasius I of Byzantium (r.491-518).
Description of find
The coin has been made into a pendant, showing the Victory reverse, probably in England in the 6th or early 7th century, when coin-jewellery of this type was fashionable. It shows two suspension points, which may have been made at the same time. It appears to have a gold suspension loop, but only a small piece now survives; this is plainer than is usual for the period, being a simple flat bar, soldered to one side…

Fragment of a plain gold rod. The gold rod is circular in section and is rounded at one end and broken at the other. The surface is smooth and only slightly pitted. There is no decoration though some evidence for small hammer marks on the rod. Due to its undiagnostic nature it does not represent Treasure under the terms of the Treasure Act (1996).

A Medieval finger-ring, iconographic in type, engraved at its centre with the image of a standing saint, possibly St John the Evangelist, holding a chalice in his left hand and blessing it with his right. The ring is a highly original construction of geometric planes, creating an exaggerated point at the shoulder. Each plane is engraved with a sunburst and sprigs of foliage. The back of the hoop is cabled and carries an inscription punctuated by engraved flowers. The inscription is contrary to the orientation of the image and reads:
"EN BON AN"
This French inscription, wishing a…

Short length of distorted gold rod of approximately circular cross-section. Both ends appear to have been cut using a chisel. Diameter of rod 5mm; weight 3.21g. Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of the surface indicated a gold content of approximately 55-58%, a silver content of approximately 40-44% and a copper content of more than 1%.
Possibly a distorted solid penannular ring, the diameter of which would have been approximately 13mm. Should this be the case, the piece could fit morphologically into the category of Bronze Age penannular rings. These are generally date…

Broad period: MEDIEVAL

A miniature medieval brooch, roughly oval in shape, and terminating in two joined hands. The brooch has two facets which carry an enigmatic inscription, punctuated by flowers and colons. Reading clockwise from the pin, the letters are
On the inner band N V I V N: I I M I N I
On the outer band: V I I I T I: I: I - I I V L V I (?)I
The meaning of this is unclear, but may have magical or amuletic significance. The two hands may once have held a pearl, which is customary for brooches of this type.
The brooch is gold, and dates from the thirteenth century.

A piece of gold, much bent and distorted. Beneath the folds can be seen the arms of England (first quarter) and those of Ireland (third quarter). This heraldic evidence points to a date of manufacture after the Act of Union in 1707.

CORONER'S REPORT
Description of Find
A small gold finger-ring with near-circular hoop, which expands to form the simple narrow ovoid bezel. In its lightly-convex surface, which appears much worn, is a small curved indentation, perhaps the last vestige of an engraved motif.
Discussion
Except for a bevelling of the inner edge of the hoop the form of the ring is similar to a Roman type which often has an engraved image on the bezel - bird, lion, bust etc., but above all, in Britain, a stylised palm branch (cf. 2006 T463 and 2006 T588 of gold; also 2005 T230 and 2006 T418 of silve…

Gold posy ring, bearing the inscription 'God did decree our unitye' inside the band. The band is badly bent out of shape and split along its edges, suggesting it is actually hollow sheet gold. It is probably less than 300 years old.
