A small gold posy ring inscribed inside in italic lower case vertue makes love eternall. The ring has a D-shaped hoop in cross-section and the exterior bears a pattern of recurring plant motifs with white enamel in the surrounding cells. Joan Evans records this inscription in an undated compilation of mottoes (English Posy and Posy Rings, Oxford 1931, p. 105), while the enamel floral decoration on the exterior is more likely to date from the 18th century. In such circumstances there is not enough evidence to date this ring pre-1706 and as such falls outside the provisions of the Tr…

gold posy ring Date: 17th or early 18th century Description: Thin narrow hoop, plain exterior, inscribed inside in lower case: Let likinge laste. Discussion: The inscription is recorded in J. Evans, English Posies and Posy Rings (Oxford 1931) p. 68, and occurs on a plain ring in the BM from the Joan Evans Gift (1961,1202,418) and on a ring in the V&A ornamented with bosses and dated to the 17th century by C. Oman, Catalogue of Rings in the Victoria & Albert Museum (London 1930) no. 688. The use of the long 's'in 'laste' is consistent with a date in the 17th century, but similar letter…

Enamelled memorial finger ring with internal inscription: IN NOSTRI MEMORIA followed by unusual symbol. This very small gold ring is enamelled on the exterior with a wreath in alternate bands of pale blue and white; the inside inscribed: 'In nostri memoria', with either a date-letter or a maker's mark, the letter F in a shaped shield. This is a type of ring that could be 17th or early 18th century, but as it has not proved possible to identify the mark, we do not have enough evidence to confirm a pre-1708 date. The ring can not be securely dated to pre-17…

A post medieval annular brooch. An oval ring of thin 6.5mm wide stamped silver with flat pin and no pin-hook; the pin fastens by pulling the fabric through the ring. The pin stamped on the front with a maker's mark in a rectangle: JH/IH or TH, in cursive script. The mark is not recorded in Grimwade or Jackson and may perhaps be non-London maker, but the lettering is most characteristic of the early to mid 18th century. This does not qualify as Treasure.
