Post-Medieval gold posy ring. Gold band of D-shaped section, plain exterior, inscribed inside KEPE FAITH TIL DEATH. There is no maker's mark but the use of capital letters suggests a date of 16th -17th century. The same message, written as 'Keepe Faith till Death' is found on a gold posy ring the collection of the British Museum, 1961.1202.102, which was donated by Dame Joan Evans.

Treasure case: 2012 T53 Description: Post-Medieval gold plated finger-ring. Exterior of ring is decorated with three horizontal rows of bosses, interior plain. Discussion: This is a puzzling ring for which we have found no parallels. The closest example in the British Museum collections is 1956,1014.1, which has diagonal rows of bosses creating a similar effect with a double row of capital letter inscription in English on the interior, the lettering consistent with a dating of 16th - 17th century. However the structure of this ring is different, it appears to be a layer of gold o…

A Post Medieval finger ring made in gold, dating to the 17th century. The external surface is decorated with a cast pattern of alternate hearts and anchors(?). There seems to be the remains of a black material in the lower sections of the pattern. An inscription has been engraved on the internal surface. The inscription reads, "Wheare this I giv[e]". The ring is broken and is now opened so that it lies flat. Evans (1931:108) lists a more complete version of this posy as "Wheare this I give I wish to live". In the absence of a datable maker's mark we cannot confirm that this …

Post-Medieval gold finger-ring. Gold finger-ring with flattish band, inscribed inside in lower case 'be true in hart', with very faint maker's mark, which may possibly read ? H Date: probably 17th Century or perhaps early 18th Century. Discussion: A posy ring in the BM with similar short inscription 'In trust be juste' has what appears to be the same maker's mark, the letters HT conjoined with the T above the H, but it has not been identified in any of the standard reference works (1961,1202.414). Nonetheless the balance of probability is that this ring is more than 300…

Gold Post-Medieval posy ring decorated on the exterior with a pattern of stylised scrolls and foliate ornament incorporating a vase motif, reserved in gold on a black enamel ground. The interior inscribed: Quo me fata vocant (I will go where fate calls me). Both exterior and inscription contain the original enamel in very good condition. The ring dates to the 17th century. For a ring with closely similar decoration with almost identical scrolls, and inscription dated 1621, see A. B. Chadour, Rings. The Alice and Louis Koch Collection, 2 vols, Leeds 1994, vol.
