This gold ring is formed of three interlinking hoops, the centre one flat on both sides, the two outer hoops flat on one side only; the hoops interlink at the front forming a decorative bezel. Although examples are known, puzzle rings are not common before 1700; in this case, there is no evidence to date this ring pre 1705. J Rudoe British Museum 26/01/2006

A complete Silver gilt finger ring of early Modern dating (early 19th Century). Formed of a broad silver hoop, partly gilded; three horizontal bands with punched decoration applied in clumps. In the absence of anything comparable in the collections of the British Museum it is difficult to date this ring with any accuracy but it is unlikely to be earlier than the 19th century. An enamelled gold barrel-shaped link of late 18th to early 19th Century dating. This gold link bears traces of blue, green and white enamel forming a pattern of white dots in the centre flanked by a blue band and a wreath in green. On examination at the British Museum, no evidence was found to date this link pre-1704. It is a characteristic type of the late 18th or early 19th century. Judy Rudoe Curator of Renaissance and Later Collections. Department of Prehistory and Europe British Museum 10th July 2004. As there is no evidence to date the object to pre-1704, and since …

An incomplete silver pin, with a hollow-stamped bird finial, of 19th Century dating. A pin with a hollow-stamped bird finial, in two pieces (the bird is separate); there is nothing comparable in the British Museum collections, but this object is certainly not earlier than the 19th century. As the pin is certainly not earlier than 19th Century, and as it is a single find, it falls outside of the requirements of the Treasure Act 1996 and should not be considered to be Treasure. Gold mourning ring of openwork construction: a plain inner band with an applied hollow pierced and engraved hoop forming four lobes. The inner band inscribed inside in lower case script: 'Death hath surpris'd my cheifest Jewell T H' with a maker's mark L above W in a circular cartouche. The hollow cavity almost certainly intended to contain plaited hair, echoed in the design of the ring with its engraved 'plaits'. The unusual design consists of an openwork diamond / lozenge flanked by a double vertical incised line. On either side of these vertical lines, two diagonal foliate desig…

DIMS Treasure case 2008 T659: Silver ornamental ring A thin silver band, set with three transparent white stones, either rock-crystal, or more likely glass, in plain collet setting. This is a type that occurs from the later 17th century and continues will into the 18th century. It is therefore not possible to confirm that it is more than 300 years old. As the find can not be securely dated to pre-1708 it falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.
