Segment of a Neolithic secondary flake of pale grey patinated flint with faint irons stains, struck from a multi-platform core. One facet on the dorsal face is a fracture of natural thermal origin. Both distal and proximal ends of the flake are missing due to transverse bending fractures and the breaks may have occurred when the flake was struck. 28 x 24 x 5mm. Strip along eastern edge.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Very large grey quartzite pestle, or club-like stone implement, cylindrical and narrowing gently towards the convex top. The surfaces are patinated brown. Their smoothness suggests that the method of manufacture was grinding and polishing. The "pounding" end shows no obvious sign of wear. A little known and obscure type of lithic, little has been published on these, Evans, J. (1897) discusses pestle-like implements and club shaped pestles in passing, pages 254 to 257 and is of the opinion that these are Late Prehistoric, possibly a "ceremonial" or &qu…

Object type: SICKLE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Incomplete elongated laterally curved biface in light grey / white patinated flint with spotty iron staining. Invasive percussion flaking covers most of both faces although some of the original (?tertiary) flake surface survives unmodified. The proximal end is broken. The intended tool type is obscure. It may be a rough-out for a sickle, though this is far from certain. 93 x 34 x 16mm. Neolithic (perhaps early).
