Post Medieval (16th century) chafing dish handle fragment: The copper alloy chafing dish handle is incomplete and is the lower portion of an inverted angular heart-shaped handle. The edges of the handle are slightly bevelled and file marks are visible on these surfaces. The breaks on the handle are not recent.  The lug also has file marks over the surface. The handle has a dark grey coloured patina. It measures 14.74mm long, 60.28mm wide, 5.17mm thick. It weighs 13.18g. The object is a Medieval gold finger ring. The ring has a slender hoop which has been distorted in plan. This distortion was probably due to plough damage, as it was found within the plough soil. The loop has a 'D' shaped section which slightly expands towards the bezel. The bezel is oval in plan and is set with a cabochon setting. Jon Radley (Keeper of Geology, Warwickshire Museum) commented the setting may be polished quartz, but this could not be confirmed unless a destructive analysis was carried out. Roman brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, 4.a-4.b, Plate 46. The copper alloy brooch has semi-cylindrical undecorated wings with perforated wing caps, one wing is incomplete. The iron axis bar has the spring coiled around it four times on one half of the axis bar. The pin is missing. The body of the mount is a shield-shaped with a loop protruding off each corner. The loops are at the end of a short lug. The lugs are angled as if to allow a strap to pass behind the mount. The mount is decorated with three low-relief chevrons. There is traces of red enamel within the chevrons. The surface of the mount is slightly corroded. Similar examples on the PAS database include: NMS-0C5943 and SUR-7CB610.  This harness mount was published in The Coat of Arms (2014, Third Series, Volume 10(2)/no.228, 116).
