Roman body/base fragment of a Samian ware vessel: The exterior and interior is undecorated, although there are two fine concentric rings on the exterior towards the base of the vessel. The surfaces have a shiny dark red/orange surface and the fabric is a fine orange colour. Some abrasion has occurred. It weighs 12.84g. The Samian ware was probably made in Gaul during the 2nd to 3rd century.

The upper surface is decorated with an unidentifiable motif created by a light yellow slip and then covered by a glaze which darkens the slip to a mottled dark yellow colour. The exterior of the sherd has staining giving it a mottled orange-brown and grey colour. The sherd is heavily abraded. The base of the vessel has concave and has three concentric fine grooves. The sherd is 61.35mm diameter and weighs 54.87g. The sherd probably dates to the Roman period, but cannot be narrowed down further.
