Roman body/base fragment of a Samian ware vessel: The exterior and interior is undecorated, although there are two fine concentric rings on the exterior towards the base of the vessel. The surfaces have a shiny dark red/orange surface and the fabric is a fine orange colour. Some abrasion has occurred. It weighs 12.84g. The Samian ware was probably made in Gaul during the 2nd to 3rd century.

The upper surface is decorated with an unidentifiable motif created by a light yellow slip and then covered by a glaze which darkens the slip to a mottled dark yellow colour.
