Gold quarter stater, some wear, and abrasion on the obverse, Hobbs 1638. This type is not recorded in Van Arsdell; there are five in the BM including that illustrated in Hobbs all from Essendon, Herts and another six on the Celtic Coin Index (CCI 930963, 941350, 980498 from Watford, Tring and Bishops Stortford; 962670, 971014, 980125 unlocated). The type is related to Whaddon Chase and Tasciovanus types, distribution so far is Hertforshire (but Bishops Stortford eg noted as possibly from Essex, so this example is the most easterly so far but within the Catuvellauni/Trinovantes area.

Copper alloy brooch, Colchester derivative type with double pierced lug spring attachment. Missing spring, pin; damaged lug, wings, cartchplate; bent bow; corroded/abraded surfaces. The wings have multiple rib mouldings separated by grooves, the central ribs have traces of transverse hatching. The bow is rounded in section with a slightly flattened back and tapers slightly. The front has 3 longitudinal narrow ribs flanked by grooves. The small footknob is a fully round double bead. Surviving width 32mm, length as bent 65mm. A large and elaborate example of the type.

There is a small concentric ridge in the middle of the setting area. The flat outer band has gilding and traces of a row of punched circles, c.0.5mm across, around the outer part. Diameter 27mm, plate with setting rim thickness 4mm. Type as Hattatt no.175.

Copper alloy brooch, early plate type. Missing pin and parts of the projecting elements around the plate, plus any settings; hinge damaged and bent; surface abraded. The pin was hinged on two close set lugs. The plate is up to 1.2mm thick. A centre hole has a recessed circular area around it, with rib and concentric groove defining a diameter of 11.3mm. Copper alloy brooch, Colchester type. Missing pin, part spring; damaged catchplate and wing; surfaces corroded. Small flat wings with no surviving decoration. Oval section bow tapering to a point and not decorated. The stub of the catchplate has traces of incised zigzag on one face and no sign of holes. In profile the top angle is around 90 degrees and the curve is fairly even (and possibly bent). Width 10mm, length 54mm.
