The upper right ventral edge has short, scaled, abrupt retouch, likewise at the ventral distal end. Longer scaled low-angle retouch is to the upper left ventral edge, forming the point. There is possible short, scaled, abrupt retouch to the middle of the right dorsal edge. The object measures 42.3mm in length, 33.4mm in max.width, 8.4mm in max.thickness and weighs 8.84g.

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A probable Late Neolithic/ Early Bronze Age (2500 BC - 1500 BC) flint end-scraper, possibly an end-and-side scraper, broadly horseshoe-shaped with a D-shaped cross-section. The flint is opaque, grey in colour with heavy areas of patination and patination spots elsewhere. The object has been worked at the dorsal distal end with invasive, scaled, abrupt retouch, and to the right dorsal edge with invasive, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch. It has a wide, prominent bulb of percussion on the ventral face. The object measures 62.2mm in length, 65.6mm in max.width, 19.5mm in max.thickness and w…

Object type: POLISHED AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A fragment of Neolithic (4000-2350 BC) flint polished axehead with transverse breaks (losing both cutting edge and butt end) and extensive damage to both faces. The flint is opaque and a light grey in colour with one area of cortex remaining on each face close to (opposite) edges. Iron staining is visible on the arises caused by more recent damage. From the surviving original long edges, the axehead flares in width over its surviving length (from 50.7mm to 54.9mm) and apparently thickens in proportion (now 20.1mm to 27.3mm) but lack of original surface makes this difficult to estima…

Object type: CORE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint single-platform core of Mesolithic or Neolithic date (10,000 - 2100 BC) with blade flakes removed part of the way round (type A2). The core is conical in shape and roughly lozenge-shaped in cross-section with a flat underside. The unworked areas are convex (mostly) and flat (underside and adjacent area). The worked face, roughly half of the outside surface, consists of five or six flake parallel flake removal scars. The flint is brown in colour, translucent at the very edges, with two small areas of an orangey-brown cortex. There is an opaque, heavily patinated grey area to on…

Object type: CORE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint multiple-platform core of Mesolithic or Neolithic date (10,000 - 2100 BC) with blade flakes removed from three platforms (type C). The core has a D-shaped cross-section and roughly parallel long edges. The convex face has one-direction flake removals (five), the flat face has one-direction diagonal flake removals (three) and one of the faces that joins them has apparently two one-direction flake removals. A small patch of cortex also survives on this face. The flint is opaque and off-white in places and bluey-grey in others. Iron staining survives along the arises. The objec…

A large undatable Prehistoric (Neolithic to Bronze Age, 4000-800 BC) secondary flint flake with heavy patination. It is oval in shape with c.20% cortex at the dorsal distal end. It has a prominent bulb of percussion to the ventral face. The flint is grey in colour with darker grey and grey blue areas around the heavy patination. Iron staining is visible along the arises. The object measures 80.2mm in length, 58.6mm in max.width, 24.9mm in max.thickness and weighs 116g (to the nearest 2g).

Object type: BORER
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint borer of probable Bronze Age date, c. 2350 BC - 800 BC. It is formed on a flake and still retains c.75% of its light orangey-brown cortex, also visible at the edges of the ventral face. Short flake removals form a point on the dorsal face. Additional short, scaled, abrupt retouch defines the edge to one side only. At the opposite end of the flint two longitudinal and one transverse flake removal (of cortex) angle towards a shallower point without additional retouch. The flint beneath the cortex is dark grey in colour with light patination spots around the shallower point. The …

A flint borer of probable Bronze Age date, c. 2350 BC - 800 BC. It is formed from a flint pebble and still retains c.60% of its light orangey-brown cortex. Six flake removals form a worn point, four of which are angled towards the point with another two taken at right angles to the others. The flint beneath the cortex is dark grey in colour, heavily patinated in places and opaque. The object measures 59.6mm in length, 38.0mm in max.width, 23.1mm in max.thickness and weighs 55.59g.
