An incomplete copper alloy strap-fitting of perhaps early-medieval to medieval date (500-1500). It is rectangular in shape and slightly convex/ concave, with damage to the edges. There is a piercing for a separate rivet (now missing) at either end. The peircings measure 1.6mm and 1.9mm in diameter, and around the larger on the decorated convex face is a scored circle 6mm in diameter, suggesting a circular attachment here. The convex face is decorated with a grooved line flanking the outside edge and within this two S-shaped ribbons feeding in turn under and over each other to create a…

The head of the lion is in profile in a thickish backwards-C shape, with bulbous nose at the top, open mouth, and jaw below. It has moulded decoration to the convex front and is hollow to the reverse. A raised ridge follows the line of the chin from below the mouth to the base of the crescentic ear. A prominent brow ridge along the top edge gives way to a shallow eye beneath with rounded cheek below. The area b…

A copper alloy strap fitting of perhaps Roman date and possibly phallic in form. The body of the object has an oval cross-section with an oval 'hemispherical' moulding (7.2x6.3mm, c.4mm long) at one end and a thickened rim (3.2mm tall, 7.2x5.2mm) at the other. The latter is largely obscured by iron corrosion. Occupying most of the body between the thickened rim to just over half way is an oval perforation (5.4x2.6mm). The hemispherical moulding is decorated around the wider end with short diagonal grooves. It is flattened at its apex and decorated with a further diagonal groove. T…

An incomplete half of a post-medieval copper alloy two-part toggle clasp, from a sword belt of 16th - 17th century date. It isn't certain whether this is part of the hook or eye section.

The object consists of part of the plate with large central hole 5.9mm in diameter emphasised by trefoil knops with deep cusps on two opposing sides. Two opposing projections from the other two 'sides' both terminate in breaks across rivet holes, 1.8mm diameter at the centre of the plate and 2.3mm just below one of the terminals.
