An incomplete copper alloy strap-fitting of perhaps early-medieval to medieval date (500-1500). It is rectangular in shape and slightly convex/ concave, with damage to the edges. There is a piercing for a separate rivet (now missing) at either end. The peircings measure 1.6mm and 1.9mm in diameter, and around the larger on the decorated convex face is a scored circle 6mm in diameter, suggesting a circular attachment here. The body of the object has an oval cross-section with an oval 'hemispherical' moulding (7.2x6.3mm, c.4mm long) at one end and a thickened rim (3.2mm tall, 7.2x5.2mm) at the other. The latter is largely obscured by iron corrosion. Occupying most of the body between the thickened rim to just over half way is an oval perforation (5.4x2.6mm). An incomplete half of a post-medieval copper alloy two-part toggle clasp, from a sword belt of 16th - 17th century date. It isn't certain whether this is part of the hook or eye section.
