Iron spoon auger. Spoon coming to a blunt point. Shaft has a sub-rectangular cross-section, lanceolate bit. Biddle lists a number of spoon augers in 'Object and Economy in Medieval Winchester' (1990)(p.2726, figs. 1335, 1337) but these differ slightly to this example in that the sides of the bit are either straight or slightly concave. Iron pin. The head consists of an oval ring held at the point of constriction by a loop formed by folding over the top of the shaft. The shaft is circular in section. The function of the pin is uncertain. A similar pin is identified in Biddle 1990 (Object and Economy in Medieval Winchester, No. 1466) where it is noted that such pins may not be dress pins and might be for securing two parts in the manner of a cotter pin (ibid. p.555).

A probable pair if iron Roman or Early Medieval shears. U-shaped spring, blades missing. This basic type can be distinguished from medieval and later shears which have a loop at the junction of the arms of the spring.
