Crudely cast, slightly waisted, copper alloy vessel leg. Length 41mm, width 28-33mm, thickness 18mm, weight 77.4 grams. Identifying the vessel type that this leg is from is not possible. Presumably it was either a cauldron, skillet, jug or ewer. Close dating is equally difficult as the form of the legs like this did not change from the medieval period until the seventeenth century (Read 1995, 95).

Several cast copper alloy vessel fragments including the basal end of two vessel legs form different vessels but both plano-convex in section and with decorative outer longitudinal ribs; cast copper alloy rim fragments from four different wide and steep sided vessels (probably cauldrons); and a cast copper alloy rim fragment from a wide and steep sided vessel which includes an integrally cast suspension loop, the upper part of which contains a pronounced wear facet.

Dating them is difficult, excavated examples range in date from the medieval period to the nineteenth century.

Lead, or lead alloy (pewter), slightly domed button with a large attachment loop. The button is decorated with a moulded quatrefoil design. Diameter 14mm, weight 5.8 grams. Although lead is a soft metal, and therefore inherently unsuitable for use as a button, the ease with which it could be moulded ad its relative cheapness led to it being used for such a purpose (Bailey 1997, 38). Study of the flash lines on this example suggest that it was cast in a three-part mould. Comparable lead buttons are known from thirteenth century contexts in London (i.e. Egan 1991, 274, no.1376, fig.178)…

Lead, or lead alloy, discoidal casting. The upper face is decorated with a central raised ring and dot motif bordered by a series of smaller bosses. Superficially the casting resembles the top of a tobacco jar handle (Bailey 2000, 62-63); however, the partially enclosed groove on the reverse suggests that it may have been used as a crude seal. Fragment of a bow brooch consisting of the lower part of a flat narrow tapering bow, slightly curved in profile, embellished with a shallow channel adjacent to each edge. Part of small catch-plate survives. Surviving length 36mm, surviving maximum width 6.5mm, weight 1.5 grams. The simple form of the flat bow and small catch-plate suggest that this was probably part of a Strip Bow brooch.
