Silver crossbow brooch, broken and somewhat distorted, with only the bow and part of the head intact. The bow is ovate in profile, trapezoidal in section, and is decorated with a single lengthwise groove. On the head is a conical shaped knob with flat disc below. Part of one of the arms is intact, but the end knob is broken away, whilst the other arm, the foot and pin are all missing. Dates to the late 3rd/1st part of 4th century AD

TREASURE CASE : 2004 T487 Gold finger ring, constructed of five pieces of alternating plain and beaded wire hammered together to form a simple rounded hoop. The ring is bent, squashed and heavily worn, and there are gaps where parts of the wire fail to meet. The ring is probably Roman; the ring is distinctive, but not diagnostic.

TREASURE CASE : 2007 T21 Roman silver finger ring. Description of find The ring hoop is oval, and has a smoothly swelling profile which expands from the base to sharply carinated shoulders which support an ovate box setting. The ring has a number of decorative mouldings. One is on the underside, which shadows the shape of the hoop, and the others are unusual concave triangular mouldings on either side of the bezel. A solid cast copper-alloy Roman figurine, possibly representing Atlas. The figurine is of a naked male figure, posed in an unusual half crouched position, with the left leg half bent and the right leg three-quarters bent. The head is tilted to the right, the left arm is bent and raised above the head. The right arm is broken off between the shoulder and elbow, but the surviving part is angled downwards. The detailing is not very fine, but the surface of the figure is somewhat corroded and worn, and there are patches of encrustation, particularly between the legs and up the back. I…
