Obverse: Helmeted head of Roma right, before [M.AVRELI], behind ROMA (downwards) and a star. Border of dots. Reverse: Naked, bearded warrior in biga right, holding shield, carnyx, and reins in left hand, hurling spear with right, below SCAVRI; in exergue [L.LIC.CN.DOM], border of dots. Copying a prototype of the mint of Narbo, cf. RRC, p. 298, no. 282/1.

PONTIF MAXIM reverse type depicting a female figure (Pax or Livia) seated right holding vertical sceptre in right hand and branch in left. Prototype of the mint of Lyon, cf. RIC I (2nd ed.), p. 95, no. 30. This type of coin is often referred to as the 'Tribute penny' of the bible (Matthew 22:17-21), although it is perhaps more likely that what was being referred to in the biblical account was a Roman provincial silver coin struck in one of the eastern mints.

It measures 18.66mm in diameter, 1.90mm in thickness, and 2.3g in weight.

This coin is a plated copy with the copper-alloy core clearly visible, seemingly perhaps also pierced in antiquity. It has a diameter of 10.5mm with a thickness of 2.2mm, a length of 9.1mm with a width of 4.1mm and it weighs 1.02g.
