A plated contemporary copy of a silver Roman denarius, probably of Vespasian (AD 69-79), dating to the period c.AD 73-79 (Reece period 4). PONTIF MAXIM reverse type depicting the Emperor seated right holding branch and vertical sceptre. Prototype of the mint of Rome. cf. RIC II (2nd ed.), p. 98, no. 544 passim for the reverse prototype. This reverse type is struck for both Vespasian and Titus, the obverse probably from a later issue of Vespasian.
