A silver Roman Republican 'Legionary' denarius of Mark Antony, dating to the period c.32-31 BC (Reece period 1). LEG XII(I) reverse type depicting two Legionary Standards, with a Legionary eagle between them. Travelling mint moving with Antony. cf. RRC p. 541, no. 544/27 Mark Antony issued the 'legionary' denarii from a travelling mint, possibly in Greece, to pay his fleet and legions in the build up to conflict with Octavian (Augustus), which culminated in the Battle of Actium on the 2nd of September, 31 BC (Grueber, 1970, 526). The coin measures 17.5 mm and weighs 3 grams.
