A copper alloy contemporary copy of a Roman dupondius of Claudius I (AD 41-54) dating to the period c.AD 41 - 54 (Reece period 2). CERES AVGVSTA, S C reverse type, depicting Ceres seated left on an ornamental throne, holding two corn ears and a long torch. Unclear mint. For the type cf. LIBERTAS COS IIII S C reverse type depicting Libertas standing left holding a pileus (cap of liberty) and a sceptre. Mint of Rome. RIC III, p. 140, type as 917, p. 142, no. 933. This is probably a coin of British Association as listed by D. Walker in his study of the Sacred Spring at Bath, cf. D. Walker, 1988: pp. 294, 297, nos. 1-5, p. XXXIV. The coin is 25.88mm diameter, 4.7mm thick and 13.43g in weight.
