A Medieval silver-gilt finger ring with crowned heart at the bezel. The outer surface of the flat-sectioned hoop is decorated by a series of panels, each of which bears an engraved quatrefoil design and is either rectangular or lozenge-shaped. The two forms of panel generally alternate, the only exception being at the back of the hoop, where there are two adjacent lozenges. A gold lozenge shaped back plate, from a composite pendant, perhaps a reliquary pendant. The front of the back plate has been engraved with a pictorial design. The reverse is undecorated. The upper left hand edge has a rounded edge, whereas the others are square. This is because this is the outer edge, with a ridge, which would have been used to hold onto and slide the plate out from the rest of the pendant. The pictorial design on the back plate shows St George as an armoured soldier, holding a lance, standing over a dragon. St George is wearing an open face salet, and full…

Due to its fragmentary nature it is difficult to conclusively identify this object. It is most likely a late medieval dress accessory. It is made from silver, and takes the form of a scallop shell with seven foils divided by six radiating engraved lines and two transverse curved lines on the upper, convex face. The reverse is concave with a few possible spots of solder, broken across the hinge end of the shell. Apart from the possible solder, there is no visible means of attachment. For comparisons please see: BERK-FC52B0 and FAKL-BCA6A8 Probably 14th - 15th century. Length 2…
