A ceramic spindle whorl dating from the Roman to Medieva periods (43 - 1500 AD). The spindle whorl is flat and sub circular with a circular hole through the centre. The whorl has been formed from a fine white paste sherd. It measures 32mm in diameter.
Spindle whorls were commonly used from the Iron Age through to the Post Medieval period which makes them difficult to date without contextual evidence. This spindle whorl appears to have been made from a piece of Roman pottery and so a slightly shorter date range has been suggested.
