Object type: VESSEL
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Cambridgeshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A cast copper alloy repair from a vessel (pot mend), dating from the Roman to Medieval periods (43 - 1500 AD). One face of the pot med is sub rectangular with a smaller sub circular bar projecting from the centre. The mend measures 29mm in length. No fabric adheres to the mend to indicate what type of vessel it was used to repair. Pot mends of this form are found in both Roman and Medieval periods as a common way to repair broken pottery vessels. Without any remains of the pot it is impossible to date it more precisely.

Object type: SPINDLE WHORL
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Cambridgeshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A ceramic spindle whorl dating from the Roman to Medieva periods (43 - 1500 AD). The spindle whorl is flat and sub circular with a circular hole through the centre. The whorl has been formed from a fine white paste sherd. It measures 32mm in diameter. Spindle whorls were commonly used from the Iron Age through to the Post Medieval period which makes them difficult to date without contextual evidence. This spindle whorl appears to have been made from a piece of Roman pottery and so a slightly shorter date range has been suggested.
