A gold spiral ring of uncertain date and function made from a rectangular-sectioned rod bent into a circular shape. It is almost exactly four turns or 'coils' of the rod, with a small section of three. One end of the rod is rectangular in cross-section and has come away from the rest of the ring; the other end tapers to a fine point and has been hammered into its adjoining 'coil'. Both ends of the rod show signs of clamping or cutting. The outside face of the ring has been flattened (presumably hammered) to give an even surface but still will clear delineation of 'coils', while the in…

An apparently complete sheet-gold object of rectangular shape and with a perforation at the centre of each short end, perhaps of Bronze Age date (2,500-800 BC). The object shows signs of being transversely folded or bent multiple times along its length. Both perforations (c.0.8mm diameter) are made from the same side of the object to its opposite side. The object is perhaps related to gold ornaments/ strips known from the Bronze Age of Southern England. The object measures 57.3mm in length, 6.7mm in max.width (varying along the length by 0.5mm), 0.3mm in thickness and weighs 1.58g.

Description: The hoard consists of a copper-alloy spearhead and a copper-alloy axehead, as well as six copper-alloy waste globules from casting, a circular lead plug and two waste lead- or silicone-based globules, possibly of the substance known as 'cremation slag', 'clinker' or 'cramp'. It is possible that the lead item is residual as the field in which the hoard was found has been heavily ploughed. However, lead is not unknown in association with Bronze Age hoards as it was used in the casting process to get a smoother cast. A sample of charcoal was taken from the hole. The hoa…
