An incomplete and highly abraded Roman copper alloy hinged T-shaped brooch of uncertain sub-type possibly a developed 'T' shape or headstud, probably dating to c. AD 50-150. The surviving brooch comprises of the upper bow and partial head, with the lower bow, pin and catchplate missing. The bow has a roughly oval cross section: it is fairly flat at the rear and more convex at the front. It curves rearward as it extends downward from the head, before terminating in a worn break. Post medieval hammered silver coin of Elizabeth I, probably a six pence based on the size. Dates to between 1538 and 1603 AD. It has been folded twice, probably for use as a love token. The custom of giving bent coins as love tokens was at its height in the reign of William III (1694 to 1702 AD) and they are usually found in reasonable numbers on old fair sites. The diameter is 22mm, and the weight is 1.12g.
