An incomplete cast copper alloy unidentified object of probably Medieval to Post Medieval date, c. 14th-16th century AD. The object is cruciform in shape with a short, plain cross bar comprised of two large rivet holes. The larger of the two segments is oval in cross-section on the shorter end and triangular in cross-section at the longer end; it appears to have been broken at both ends. A raised central ridge runs the vertical length of the whole segment and traces of diagonal lines feeding into this central ridge suggest a 'braided' effect. The other face is plain and undecorated. …

A cast copper-alloy fragment of unknown attribution and date, possibly from the Iron Age to Early Medieval period. The top of the object is circular in shape and discoidal, with incised decoration comprising with three concentric rings and a central recessed 'dot'. There is a short shaft which is D-shaped in cross-section projecting from the bottom of the decorated disc. There appears to be a small casting sprue on another edge of the circular head or it may be a similar shaft as that described above, projecting perpendicular to the more complete one. The object measures 22.98mm long…

A fragment of copper-alloy sheet with central rivet and washer of uncertain date and attribution. The rivet has a large discoidal head measuring 9.6mm in diameter. The rivet passes through the frame and is held in place with a copper alloy washer followed by a smaller head measuring 5.1mm diameter. The fragment measures 43.9mm long, 16.2mm wide, 0.9mm thick and weighs 2.86 grams. The central rivet is 6mm long. Although an exact parallel has not been found, it is likely that this fragment dates to between the Roman and Post Medieval periods. All components have a dark green patina an…

A cast copper alloy fragment of an unidentified object, probably dating from the Early Medieval to Post Medieval periods. The object was probably originally oval in shape and the fragment is curved to support this. Two ends of the fragment are broken; they are asymmetrical and one end is thicker than the other. Both sides are decorated with similar incised detail consisting of illegible curvilinear incised detail on the thinner segment of the object and then further incised lines delineating the thinner segment from the thicker one. The decoration is perhaps creating a zoomorphic …

A corroded and worn fragment of an uncertain cast copper-alloy artefact of uncertain date. It has two asymmetrical edges or possible flanges, one of which is 20.1mm in thickness tapering to 11.6mm, whilst the other is 15.7mm to 10.5mm. The central recessed element is broadly flat and creates an 'I' shaped section, and is 7.3mm thick. The object has been recorded as it potentially could be a fragment of a badly cast Middle Bronze Age palstave; however, the middle area is unusually thin for a palstave septum and the casting line at one side is unusual for such an object. Metallurgical…

A cast copper-alloy unidentified object of uncertain date; possibly a base to a further decorative element, such as a figurine. The object is circular in shape with a central circular hole. The surface that is presumed to be the base of the object has a raised circumferential lip, which has been bent and torn. The surface that is presumed to be the upper face of the object has a series of eleven projecting scalloped knops, most of which are broken to their base. One nearly complete projecting knop has the remains of one wavy arm protruding horizontally towards the adjacent knop to …

A cast lead alloy fragment of uncertain date. It is raised and bevelled on one side and flat on the reverse. It measures 35.9 mm long, 9.25mm wide 5.58mm thick and weighs 16.63 grams. This fragment has been recorded due to its close association with a huge array of Roman objects. It is possible, therefore, that this fragment is Roman in date.

A worn and corroded fragment of a cast copper-alloy unidentified object of uncertain date. This artefact is formed of a rectangular in plan flattened component which has an interior ridge, and a thick circular extension which has broken through the course of the loop. The hoop extends perpendicular to the flattened rectangle. The differential thickness makes identification difficult, and the light green colour of this fragment could render association with artefacts from the Prehistoric through to Medieval period.

An incomplete, very worn and corroded cast copper-alloy possible quatrefoil pendant or mount of Medieval date probably dating to c. AD 1200-1400. This artefact is formed of a quatrefoil in plan body which appears to have broken short of the intended length on at least two of the ends. The central body is convex and the underside recessed, and possible rounded decoration might be located on the upper surface towards each end. This artefact is light green with areas of dark red brown. As an uncertain amount of this artefact is missing, it is not possible to assess how this quatrefoil mi…

A damaged probably Medieval cast lead alloy unidentified decorated object, possibly a fragment of a pilgrim badge. The object consists of a biface circular lead disc which extends on one edge into an integral flat triangular sheet that has been folded back on itself towards the second side. One face of the disc has a raised central knop at the centre which is surrounded by a six petalled flower. The integral sheet is decorated with clusters of three pellets partially surrounded by a series of paired lines that run concentric with the circular disc. The disc on the second face is inset…

An unidentified cast copper alloy object of unknown date. The object is sub-rectangular in plan. It is curved on both sides along both its length and across its width. From its centre it tapers inwards very slightly from centre to end. The sides are rounded and the ends are chisel-like. In the centre of either face is a short integral protruding stub, which is circular in cross section. The edges of both sides have flash marks from the casting process. The surface has a mottled green to grey colour and it is probably made of a copper alloy with a higher tin or lead content.

Nine pieces of sheet copper alloy decoration representing plate tracery from a gothic or neo-gothic church window and surrounding structure. The material is very stiff and thin and has been manufactured by stamping. It probably forms part of a church interior decoration or perhaps funereal or memorial embellishment. The manafacturing method suggests it post-dates the industrial revolution and is probably 19th century in date. In total it weighs 29.25 grams.

An incomplete cast copper alloy Medieval or Post Medieval object, possibly a mount. The object is rectangular in form with a D shaped cross-section. One end finishes in an old break, the other in a point with two symmetrical side knops. Between the two knops there is a circular rivet hole that shows evidence of rust at the surface. Although the object is generally flat, the underside surface has a slight but regular curve, suggesting that it was originally fixed to a curved surface. The object is undiagnostic but the form suggests a Medieval date, possibly a casket mount or dress a…

An incomplete Medieval or Post Medieval copper alloy object. It is a broadly rectangular shape that tapers along its length towards an inwardly curved end which terminates in a narrow, short rectangular stub. The curved area has two parallel bands across the width of the face, in between which there is a central rivet of different "white metal" alloy composition that protrudes by 1.7mm through to the other side. The wider end of the object is bent slightly backwards towards the rear face where it terminates in an old fracture. No direct parallel for the object can be found but the fo…
