Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete flint end-scraper or 'thumbnail' scraper of Neolithic or early Bronze Age date. The scraper has been manufactured on a primary cortical flake and is discoidal in plan view, retaining c. 50% of its original cortex, possibly for the purpose of facilitating grip. The piece retains its cortical platform and a slightly diffuse bulb of percussion, although no bulbar scar is visible. In profile, the scraper is broadly plano-convex and very squat, which is typical of scrapers from this period. The piece has been retouched intensively at the distal end, with multiple long sub-parale…

A complete flint blade of probable Mesolithic or Neolithic date. The blade is a dark blackish tan colour with no patination visible except on the dorsal left edge, where the flint has turned a bluey white mottled colour. A small diffused bulb of percussion and bulbar scar are visible on the ventral surface. Two large dorsal arrises are visible, with a total of three previous blade negatives present on the upper surface of the blade. The dorsal left side of the blade is rather thick while the dorsal right side is thin, giving the piece a profile in the shape of a scalene triangle. Some…

A complete flint retouched flake of probably Neolithic or Bronze Age date. The flake is unpatinated and light brown in colour, with two dorsal arrises on the upper surface and two negative flake scars visible (one terminating in a hinge fracture). The platform is extremely irregular in shape and at least 50% seems to have splintered off on detachment. A prominent bulb of percussion and small bulbar scar are visible on the ventral surface, with the flake demonstrating a feather type termination. Some long sub-parallell retouch removals are visible at the distal end of the dorsal right …

An incomplete flint blade of probable Mesolithic date, comprising only the mesial section. The blade is partially translucent and posesses a blackish tan colour with no evidence of patination. The blade terminates in a step fracture and the platform seems to have been intentionally removed. Three arrises are visible on the upper surface, which comprise two previous blade negatives. Percussion ripples are visible on the ventral side. The dorsal left side of the blade demonstrates some small 'pseudo-retouch' consistent with use-wear, although a generic function that would have produced …

A knapped probably late Mesolithic- early Neolithic flint blade, c. 7000-3500 BC. The remains of the platform and small bulb of percussion are present on the proximal ventral face, along with some conchoidal ripples. Both edges show signs or retouch. There are three scars on the dorsal side of the flake. The distal end has broken off, revealing a triangular cross-section at this segment. The flint has a whitish grey patina on all surfaces, including breaks. The blade measures 33.5mm long, 18.7mm wide, 4.7mm thick and weighs 3.89 grams.

An incomplete knapped flint blade, probably dating to the Mesolithic period, 10,000-4001 BC. The fragment is missing its platform, but a portion of the bulb and conchoidal ripples remain, before the blade terminates in an old break. The cross-section of the blade at the broken surface is roughly triangular. If the proximal end is oriented upwards, the right mesial edge has been lightly retouched. The blade measures 31.1 mm long, 19 mm wide, 5.2 mm thick and weighs 2.43 grams. The flint material is of an even bluish-grey colour.

A complete knapped probably late Mesolithic- early Neolithic retouched flint blade, c. 7000-3500 BC. The remains of the platform and small bulb of percussion are present on the proximal ventral face, along with conchoidal ripples. When proximal end is oriented up, the right mesial edge of the proximal end to middle of the tool has been retouched, perhaps for hafting or for gripping. On the same edge further towards the distal end there is additional less invasive retouch. Similar retouch is visible on the left mesial distal end. A knapped flint late Neolithic to early Bronze Age thumbnail scraper, c. 2500-1500 BC. The scraper is sub-oval or 'thumb-shaped' in plan, with scaled, abrupt retouch on the dorsal face at the distal end, with some further retouch on both mesial edges. It is possible that the retouch on the left mesial edge from the dorsal face is retouched to facilitate holding the object, whereas the right mesial edge could have been used as a scraping edge. The platform of percussion and bulb of percussion are both visible on the proximal end, as well as light conchoidal ripples on the ventral face.…

A Late Mesolithic - Neolithic flint knapped blade (6500-2100 BC). The blade is triangular in cross-section with a sharp central ridge and mesial edges, which seem to not be retouched save for two extremely small areas. The bulb of percussion is intact, along with ripples of percussion. The proximal dorsal face seems to have had some microlithic removals suggesting that this blade is possibly Mesolithic in date rather than Neolithic. The distal edge is wider and difficult to interpret as the distal end seems to have been truncated using a hinge fracture, but there are further facets…

A flint barbed and tanged arrowhead dating from the Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age (c. 2500-1500 BC). The arrowhead is invasively worked with covering removals on both faces and is a "fancy" type of arrowhead, possibly of Green Low type. It is triangular in shape, with straight mesial edges. The ends of the barbs are both broken, the tang is lentoid in cross-section and broken; it is currently shorter than the barbs. The flint is light grey in colour. The arrowhead measures 34.5mm long, 24.1mm wide, 6.4mm thick and weighs 2.97 grams. Cf. Butler 2005, p165, Fig. 69, No. 1.

A knapped flint scraper, probably dating to either the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age (c. 2500 BC-1500 BC). The lithic implement is discoidal with a broadly trapezoidal cross-section. The scraper retains a bulb of percussion and small ripples of retouch on the ventral face, whilst the dorsal face has significant small retouch and shaping at the distal end. Moderate cortex remains at the two mesial edges of the dorsal face, perhaps to facilitate an individual's grip.
