Object type: STRAP END
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Buckinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Complete copper alloy double sheet strap end, dating to the Medieval period. This strap end consists of two narrow, long tongue-shaped plates, which taper to a point, with one circular rivet connecting the plates together near the wider straight edge. It is unclear from the images if this example is cast or beaten from copper sheet. This rivetted connection would have connected the strap end to a belt. Object type: HARNESS PENDANT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Buckinghamshire

A complete Medieval cast copper-alloy horse harness pendant. This harness pendant consists of a lozenge-shaped form with a top loop which would have allowed the object to be sown onto the harness leather with its decorated surface facing outwards for display. These pendants are usually decorated with a stamped or embossed, and often enameled decoration; however the erosion of the external surface has made the beast depicted difficult to identify. Lions are a common element used. Some PAS database examples: NARC-6C4EAO, KENT-EE2CB3, YORYM-1EC264, LEIC-A76A10, CORN-EBAD92, NML-5-5AE6. F…

Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Buckinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper-alloy oval double loop buckle with moulded decoration, dating to c. 1550-1650 (Whitehead 1996, 63). This post-Medieval buckle frame is complete, but is missing its buckle pin, and would have been attached to a belt without a buckle plate. The buckle is solid cast with protruding moulded roundels at both loop-sides and two smaller nodes at the top and bottom of the central belt loop shaft. A belt would then have been looped through and fixed with a pin attached to the central shaft. The two side roundels have a central dot within them; however due to the corrosion of the surface…
