A copper alloy coin dating from the Roman period: an as of Gordian III (AD 238-244) (Reece Period 12). [P M TR P] V COS [II P P]/ S C in field reverse type depicting Gordian, in military dress, standing right, holding transverse spear and globe. Mint of Rome. RIC 307.b. The coin has a diameter of 23.32, and thickness of 3.58mm, and weighs 8.61g.

A base silver Roman coin: a radiate of Gordian III (AD238-244) probably Pax on the reverse, holding olive branch and transverse sceptre. It has a patina that suggests a high copper content and it may be as little as 42% silver. A large chip is missing from the flan between 3 o'clock and 8 o'clock on the obverse. It is 20.1mm in diameter and 2.2mm thick. It weighs 2.44gm.Compare Sear Volume II number 8627, but with "C" obverse legend.
