A Neolithic flint knife which has been reused at a later date in the Neolithic as a scraper. The knife edge is formed on the right side of the D shaped flint. It has invasive retouch on both faces. The proximal end was then remodelled as a scraping edge with semi abrupt retouch from the dorsal face. The scraper was probably hafted at the distal end, which has snapped and is unpatinated. The flint is opaque grey and has a mottled white patina.

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint projectile point dating from the Neolithic period, about 3500 - 2100 BC. It is triangular in plan, the distal end being a deliberate break across the flake. It is also triangular in section with a central dorsal ridge. Both sides and the proximal point are retouched with irregular abrupt removals. It is unlikely that this is an arrowhead but as the break is deliberate it was probably hafted at the broken end and was used as some form of projectile. It is 26.8mm long, 21.8mm wide and 5.6mm thick. It weighs 3.33gm. The flint is mottled tan and grey.
