Both sides are the same and appear to depict a female bust, possibly african, with braided hair and wearing a square necked item of clothing. Copper alloy casting waste probably dating to the late Bronze Age, 1000-800BC. However, due to the lack of context and the continuation of casting styles this artefact could be dated from Bronze Age - Roman period (c. 1500 BC - 450 AD). This fragment is from the neck (funnel / well) of a composite probably two part mould. The casting waste is conical; being oval in plan and D shaped in cross section. In profile the edges of the waste taper relatively evenly. The base of the casting waste is irregular with the remains of two runners / casting jets being present. These jets / runners a…

A water-worn pebble of local flint. The object is oval in plan and D-shaped in cross-section. The object appears to have been deliberately struck off the original pebble as can be seen from a small bulb of percussion with ripples under it. The rounded edge has fine damage around it as if it could have been used for cutting or scraping. The damage could have happened naturally however it is more likely that it occurred through use as the flint was deliberately struck off the pebble for use as an implement. The object is difficult to date as it doesn't fall easily into a particular …

Gold ornament, probably a bead. The thin sheet of gold had been rolled into a cylindrical shape but has now been unfortunately crushed. It is decorated with sixteen transverse embossed grooves. There is a brown substance, probably soil, inside the crushed ornament. The probable bead is very rare for Britain and Ireland though a necklace of similar beads from Ireland is in the British Museum (BM 1853,0926.2). Although the presence of sheet-working technique and embossed decoration in Britain would suggest an Early-Middle Bronze Age date, parallels in Bronze Final individual burial cr…
