Silver badge in the form of a shield with a convex upper border flanked by two extended and rounded attachment lugs, which each have a rivet hole that is 1 mm in diameter. There is a third rivet hole in the pointed base of the shield-shaped mount. The face of the mount is incised with the words in three lines:
In every thinge

kinge
Mr Noble in his Oration on the Origin of Free-Masonry, in the Gentleman's Magazine and Historical Chronicle, Volume LXXXV, Part I, dating from January to June, 1815, refers to the phrase 'be true to the Kinge' with the same antiqu…

A Post-Medieval silver brooch; consisting of a slightly asymmetrical heart-shaped frame, d-shaped in section and separate pin, sub-rectangular in section. One end of the pin is bent into a loop, used to attach it to one side of the heart, the other terminates in a dull point which extends beyond the opposite side of the heart. The pin is bent just below the point of attachment. A small crown rests above the heart, with either side attached to the apex of the heart's 'lobes'. A small gap exists between the bottom of the crown and the valley between the 'lobes' of the heart. On the reve…

A post-medieval cast silver object, possibly an incomplete seal matrix, rectangular in cross section and four sided. All sides taper very slightly towards the base. Soldered onto the top wider end of the rectangular body is a flat oval disc, possibly a seal matrix and it is slightly wider than the cross section of the body. The recessed design on the face of the disc, is of two hearts, the right heart overlapping the left, both under a crown. The border of the disc has heavy beading. The orientation of the face is as follows: left heart nearest the side of Justice, right heart ne…

Treasure report from Dr Dora Thornton:
Silver roundel, concave, with incised flowerhead motif, gilded. On the back, signs of an attachment loop now missing.
The thinness of the metal and the type of incised decoration recalls that of cufflinks reported through the Treasure Act; compare the octagonal pair from Compton Surrey in TAR 2005-6 no. 873, there dated to the late 18th Century.
18th Century.

Silver finial in the form of a pine cone, broken off at the base, where it would have joined onto another element. It has been suggested that this may be a knop from a spoon. If this is so, the best comparison known to me is a spoon with enamelled bowl in the British Museum, P&E 1899, 12-9,3, inscribed AVE MARIA, which has been dated to the late 15th Century. The knop on this spoon is more rounded in form and is engraved with rings of regular lines rather than with the much cruder hatching seen on this object. However this object may not be a knop but may have served as some other kin…

Object type: BUTTON
Broad period: MEDIEVAL

Small silver hemispherical element, shank or attachment loop missing. The function of this object is not clear. It has been described as a button fragment, which seems plausible, though the form is unusual for post-medieval buttons of the 16th and early 17th Century reported through the Treasure Act to date. Probably 16th Century.

Silver artefact, heart-shaped, with back plate onto which a cushioned heart-shaped element has been soldered. The heart on the front decorated with applied filigree circles and knops radiating from the centre. The back flat with no sign of previously-attached bars or hooks, though the front right of the object suggests that a projecting element there has been torn away and lost. Length: 20 mm.
It is not clear how the object was worn or used but its decoration suggests a close comparison with Tudor dress fittings with hooks and attachment bars. Heart-shaped dress fittings are not …

Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Norfolk

Part of a composite silver dress fitting, elaborate cast trefoil with pair of curling fronds and large central perforation into which is inserted a rolled sheet collar with longitudinal seam, projects 5mm from reverse. Of similar feel and date to elaborate dress fittings in Gaimster et al. (2002). 13 x 13mm.
A good comparison, though reported as a belt mount, is found in Treasure Annual Report 2003 (2003T154) no. 284 from Hedon, Yorks, now recorded on the PAS database as YORYM-B33A28. 16th or 17th century.
