A complete lead alloy circular gaming piece or weight of possible Medieval date (c. 1200-c. 1500). This object is moulded at the front, flat and plain at the back. At the front the sides are stepped with a circular depression at the centre. The centre has a 'beaded' outer circle. Within the circle, at 12 o' clock, there is a raised mark which is similar to an omega. A contemporary coin has been hammered into the front to produce an incuse impression. Corrosion at the front obscures the design. The object is grey and the back has a patchy brown patina. There are old and modern s…

A cast copper alloy, socketed arrowhead possibly Late Bronze Age date, or later c. 1500 – 50 BC. The conoid socketed blade is bilobate with a pronounced lozenge form medial rib, and barbes. Now in poor condition with damage to the socket and an eroded surface. Length = 27.53mm, width = 8.76mm, weight = 2.2gm. It is conceivable that this arrowhead is of a later date, stylistically, it has a Late Bronze Age look.

Replica Jellinge style strap end dating from the early 21st century. The interlace decoration on the strap end is not an exact replica from a known strap end; however, the design was made up based on known Jellinge-style decorated metalwork. The type of decoration was used on Scandinavian or Anglo-Scandinavian metalwork in the 10th century and there are many examples on the PAS database. Normally artefacts dating from the 20th/21st century are not recorded on the PAS database, but this enty was made to showcase a very accurately made replica of an early medieval strap end used, a…

This is an interesting lead-alloy Post Medieval personal object, most likely a pipe tamper. It takes the form of a smiling female figure in an erotic pose with her hands holding her skirt above her waist. The dress and head-dress are typical of the 16th century but the artefact is more likely to date to the 17th or 18th century. At some point in the distant past the figure has lost that part below the knees that would have served as the tamper. The artefact is a brown-grey colour with spots of light grey corrosion, where small areas of the surface have been lost mid-grey coloured me…

Object type: FINGER RING
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A copper alloy finger ring with evidence of silvering or tinning on the surface. The shape is classically Roman with the slightly 'D' shaped hoop as opposed to a circle. The design on the bezel appears to be a crudely incised pair of men fighting with swords; as such it may be considered a military style ring. Going further and considering the find location in Lincolnshire, it is conceivable that the ring represents a variation on the known ‘TOT’ rings from that area. In this case, the inscription may represent ‘TUT’ in abbreviation of the god Teutates.

The butt has two clear rivet holes both damaged and incomplete but with sufficient to indicate a rivet diameter of 5mm. The tip and butt are both damaged and while much of the original surface survives with a dark brown patina, patches have been lost to corrosion. The dagger is similar in form to a dirk or rapier but its length (…
