A modern white metal copy of a post-medieval halfgroat of Henry VIII (1509-1547), copying either the third or post-humous coinage. There are several reasons to consider this a modern rather than contemporary forgery, probably dating from the Victorian period onwards. The flan of the coin is too round for a hammered coin of this period, and the edges of the coin a flat with sharp corners. The initial mark (cross with pellet centre) is not one known for Henry VIII and the inscriptions on both obverse and reverse contain inaccuracies- the end of obverse inscription reads [ ]RSh; the r…

A copper alloy coin; possibly Late Medieval or Post Medieval in date and foreign. It has an outer border composed of dots with what look to be the remains of a legend and a pattern made of lines and squares. The coin is however very worn and difficult to interpret. It is copper alloy but may have had a silver or tin coating. It has a diameter of 16.67mm, thickness 0.71mm and a weight of 0.47g. It does not appear to be a British coin.

Cast copper alloy coin weight, square in plan, and trapezoidal in profile and section. On the base of the weight there is a cross potent within a quadrilobe which is in turn within a circle of pellets. This symbol and the weight suggest that it was used to weigh against a Spanish coin, probably the Spanish four escudos gold coin which weighs about 13.52 g. It was likely produced in Amsterdam, when the Netherlands were a colony of Spain during the 17th to 18th century. The four escudos was minted from the reign of King Felipe II (1556-1598) of Spain, to King Felipe V (1700-1746).…

Cu-alloy token or counter dating from the late 18th century. The major series of these cu-alloy tokens or counters which are depicting Queen Anne appears to have been struck in Birmingham during the reign of George III. Counters of that class bear designs based on Queen Anne's shillings and sixpences: all bear the pre-Union form of shields...and show the mis-spelling 'RIG' for 'REG' which can be seen on this counter, too. Observed dates for pieces run from 1702-1774. This one is dated '1771'.

A medieval silver coin; a double petard of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, Count of Flanders (1467 – 1477). It was minted in 1467 – 1474. The coin is hardly clipped but it quite worn. It has a diameter of 26.1mm and is 0.5mm thick. It weighs 2.6g. Silver double patards of the dukes of Burgandy, from their territories of Brabant and Flanders, were made legally current in England as equal to groats (i.e. fourpence) in a convention of 1469 between Edward IV and Charles the Bold. They remained in currency until the 1520s at least. In contemporary records they are known as "doubl…
