A cast copper-alloy personal seal matrix of medieval date (c. 14th century AD). The matrix is of pointed oval shape, with a central longitudinal ridge on the reverse that terminates in a semi-circular suspension loop with a step down to the ridge (Max. Th.: 9.1mm). The die features a central motif surrounded by a personal legend; both are surrounded by beaded borders. The legend reads: '* S' MAThEI DE hA?CC?hE ('Seal of Matthew of ?Hacche'). The central device depicts a well-rendered, jessed hawk, perching (left on the die) on a gloved hand. For this 'noble' motif see also record DENO-…

Incomplete and probably Medieval lead seal matrix, probably originally circular, with a c.5mm diameter hole pierced close to one edge. It weighs 45.77g and measures 41.57x33.21x5.24mm. Its original diameter would have been circa 42mm.
One side is smooth and plain while the other has the inscription [...]IMPER[...]L around the edge, with possibly a double-stranded cross at the centre (although only a very small part remains).
Laura Burnett, FLO for Sussex, comments: Simper is, I'm guessing, a mis-spelling of semper (always). Two known seal matrices using 'simper' are Oculi mei sim…

Medieval copper alloy pointed oval seal matrix, measuring 31.2x19.1mm and weighing 6.43g. It is 2mm thick.
The matrix depicts a crowned Madonna feeding child ('Maria Lactans') above an arch, below which a figure faces left, praying. A comparison for this image can be seen on a seal matrix from Dunnington, North Yorkshire, IHS-E06142. The motif is one of the most popular images of the Virgin Mary during the 14th and 15th century, and disappears around 1550.
The legend, especially the second half, is extremely worn: SIGILL SI ..... I
The reverse of the seal matrix has a pierced,…

Copper alloy Medieval circular seal matrix. The reverse is flat and undecorated, with the remains of a small circular suspension loop to one side. The other face has a recessed design consisting of two birds with their feet turned outwards and their heads inwards, either side ofcentral plant-like object (possibly a tree or conifer branches). Around this is a circular dotted border and then the inscription, whichLaura Burnett suggests may bebe S': WI(h or LL']--W(ARI?) - maybe S' WILLDEWARI or similar. The matrix is likely to date to the thirteenth century, whensimple designs, including…

A copper-alloy seal matrix of Medieval (probably 14th century) date.
The printing face is shield-shaped, the central image and legend well executed. The image appears to be a caricature of a lion's body with a man's head. The lion is in a heraldic pose, standing rampant regardant - ie. standing on its hind legs, the head turned back towards the tail. The legend, which starts at 12 o'clock, reads '*PRIVE SVY E POV CONV', a previously recorded seal legend (see Harvey and McGuinness 1996: 117 (variant)) which roughly translates as 'Private to you and little known'. The handle is of hex…

An abraded and bent cast lead seal matrix of medieval date (13th-14th century). The matrix is of pointed oval shape, broken at each pointed end, presumably removing any suspension loop or lug as it is otherwise flat. The die features a central elongated fleur-de-lis, seemingly with a long stalk, within an incised border surrounded by a personal legend. The legend reads: '+ S' : A[...]w FIL' : ThOm' ('Seal of A[ndre]w, son of Thomas'). The legend is also within an incised border. This matrix is corroded and has been bent up at one of the tips.

The matrix depicts a horned animal (possibly a stag) walking left, a branch extending from its back, within a shield (or straight top and convexly-curved sides). Cast lead alloy pointed-oval or vesica-shaped seal matrix dating from the medieval period, that is the 13th or 14th century. The matrix is made from cast lead-alloy with a plain reverse and what looks like a broken or damaged suspension loop at the top. The obverse is very worn and scratched; the image in the centre is no longer recognisable but it may have been capital letters or may be a bird. This is a personal seal matrix and probably reads S'IOhIS FIL ROB'TI - The Seal of John, Son of Robert.

Fragment of a cast lead alloy pointed-oval or vesica-shaped seal matrix dating from the medieval period, that is the 13th/14th century. Only the lower half survives. The matrix would have read: [S' I]Oh'IS FIL WALT[ERI] This means it was the Seal of John, Son of Walter. There appears to have been a star or similar in the centre of the matrix and moulded ribs on the reverse. The suspension loop is missing along with the upper part of the matrix.
NB: The find was not seen by the FLO. Images and findspot information were kindly supplied by the rally organiser.

A broken and incomplete Medieval cast copper-alloy pedestal type seal matrix with a circular face. The handle has been almost entirely truncated, and the upper third of the die has been lost, both to old breaks. The central pedestal type handle appears to have been circular in section from the scar, a triangular indent on the scar is possible a casting flaw. The matrix has a central design of a rampant lion on a triangular shield with straight sides. There is some reddish material in the lion but this is almost certainly iron deposit rather than enamel as enamel would prevent the seal…

The reverse has a misshapen and incomplete loop at one end and the rest is decorated with a raised design, possibly representing a fleur-de-lis.
