Probably a palaeolithic flint tool reused in the later prehistoric period, possibly as a knife or other cutting tool. The tool is of a dark brown/black flint, rolled and with significant areas of iron staining. At more recent removal scars the flint can be seen to be mottled with cloudy white areas and rare white inclusions. A Roman cast copper-alloy Colchester two-piece brooch dating to the first century AD. The brooch consists of the head of the brooch, its wings and a portion of the bow.The head has semi-circular sectioned wings, slightly concave at the back to accommodate the spring (not found with the artefact). The front of the wings are rounded, plain and show chipped ends which have become rounded through abrasion. An unusually large and decorative medieval silver annular brooch complete with pin and decorated with incised lines, inlaid niello and an inscription. The brooch is circular in cross section and, while weighty, the weight suggests it is hollow. There is a constriction at one point where the pin head is looped and corresponding slight wear on the opposite side of the ring, on the front where the pin point rests. Medieval cast copper-alloy shield shaped mount. The mount has a flat front plate in the shape of a triangular shield with a straight top and slightly convex sides meeting at a point at the bottom. It is badly corroded but has a design of checks, alternating between depressed and raised. The raised ones were once all blue enamelled, a few have retained their enamel. An early-medieval cast copper alloy strap-end, classified as Thomas's (2003, 2) Class A, Type 2. This would date the artefact to around the 9th century AD. The strap-end is flat in profile and sub rectangular with slightly convex sides and squared off zoomorphic terminal. The plate narrows from a width of 10.56mm at the widest point to a width of 6.20mm at the base. The strap end is slit down the side creating a slit between the front and back for the upper third, this would have held the end of the strap. An incomplete Medieval cast copper-alloy strap-fitting dating to AD 1350 to 1400. The bar mount originally consisted of two parallel arms that were linked at the base by a semi-circular suspension loop. This loop has worn through so the two arms are now separate each with part of the loop attached. the inner side of the loop has sides that fold in suggesting it was made by hammering the sides of the strip. At the centre of the reverse is a broken rivet. The hinge at the base is corroded with the iron pin still in situ. A Roman copper alloy initial T-shaped brooch, probably dating to c. AD 50-100. Only the head and upper part of the bow of the brooch survive. The wings are broken at the end and measure 23.59mm in width and are cylindrical with a sub-rectangular slot cut into the reverse to accommodate a hinged pin, now lost. An incomplete large Roman copper alloy hinged developed T-shaped brooch, probably dating to c. 75 - 150. The brooch comprises of the upper bow, the majority of the wing casing and a broken head loop, the lower bow, catchplate and pin are all missing. At the head of the brooch the cylindrical wings survive almost intact except for the tip of the left wing where white cement is visible.
