Part of a Post Medieval copper alloy double loop oval buckle dating from c AD1500-1650. One loop is missing at an old, worn break. The central strap bar is narrowed with a small moulded knop at either end. The pin is missing. The front of the frame has bevelled edges and the back is flat and undecorated. The piece has a brown patina. It measures 25.9mm in length,1 9.3mm in width, 2.5mm in thickness and weighs 2.94g. Post Medieval copper alloy buckle frame dating to the period cAD1550 - 1650. The double oval looped frame has a moulded shell like knop in the centre of each loop and a small knop at each end of the narrowed strap bar. The shell shaped knops have convex curved outer edges and converge to an inner point that projects into the loop slightly. The frame of the chape is trapezoidal in shape (often described as 'pot shaped) with rounded outer corners and an internal spike on the outside edge. Part of a copper alloy Post Medieval trapezoidal buckle dating to cAD1620 - 1680. Only one loop of the double loop buckle remains. The outer edge is expanded into a triangle in the centre, flanked by points at each corner. On the front of the outside edge there is an incised line running from top to bottom. The outer edges of the loops are widened. The strap bar is narrowed with lobed knops at either end. The pin is missing. One loop is bent upwards and the loop and strap bar are distorted. The frame is 36.8mm long, 24mm wide and 3.4mm thick. It weighs 6.58 grams. A similar example with a recessed strap bar is illustrated in Whitehead (2003:54, Nos. 307) which he suggests dates to c.1500-1650 AD.
